PDRN Microneedling
Regenerative microneedling in South End, Charlotte
Microneedling taught skin to repair itself. PDRN teaches it to hurry. This treatment pairs FDA cleared SkinPen collagen induction with polydeoxyribonucleotide, a regenerative molecule derived from purified salmon DNA, delivered through the microchannels while they are open and listening. The result is faster repair, deeper luminosity, and the glass skin finish that made PDRN the most whispered about ingredient in aesthetics.
The pairing
FDA cleared SkinPen + medical grade PDRN serum
Downtime
A day or so of pinkness, little more
Recommended course
A series of 3 to 4, spaced about a month apart
Best for
Fine lines, acne scarring, laxity, luminosity

❧ The Protocol
Repair, accelerated.
Borrowed from the sea, built for repair
PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is a chain of DNA fragments purified from salmon, chosen because its structure is remarkably compatible with human tissue. In the skin, it behaves like a foreman on a job site: activating receptors that accelerate wound healing, stimulating fibroblasts to produce collagen, and calming inflammation while the rebuilding happens. It has decades of use in regenerative medicine behind it, and aesthetics has finally caught on.
Microchannels, then medicine
We begin with the SkinPen, the FDA cleared device that creates thousands of precise microchannels, the controlled injury that switches your skin into repair mode. Then, while those channels are open, the PDRN serum is applied so the regenerative signal reaches the depth where collagen is actually made. Microneedling alone asks your skin to rebuild. PDRN microneedling hands it the blueprints and the crew.
The list is long, pleasantly
Fine lines and early laxity. Acne scarring and enlarged pores. Post inflammatory marks and uneven tone. The general dullness of skin that has been busy living. Because the treatment works by strengthening the skin itself rather than targeting one flaw, improvements tend to arrive as a family: texture refines, tone evens, and the surface takes on the lit from within quality the internet insists on calling glass skin.
A short blush, a long payoff
Skin runs pink for a day or so, similar to a mild sunburn, then settles into an early glow. The true results build quietly over the following weeks as collagen matures, which is why we sequence a series a month apart. Within the Regenerative Program, PDRN microneedling is often the backbone treatment, with Aerolase and peels arranged around it like a well set table.

❧ Questions, answered
Before you book
What is PDRN microneedling? +
PDRN microneedling combines SkinPen collagen induction with polydeoxyribonucleotide, a regenerative molecule from purified salmon DNA, applied through the microchannels to accelerate repair, collagen production, and luminosity beyond what microneedling achieves alone.
The needling creates the repair signal; the PDRN supplies the raw instructions your cells use to answer it. Together they produce the finish that made this pairing the most requested new treatment in aesthetics.
Is PDRN the same as salmon sperm facials? +
The internet's favorite nickname, and close enough. PDRN is purified DNA fragments derived from salmon, refined to medical grade and biocompatible with human skin. Whatever the headlines call it, the science underneath is regenerative medicine, not novelty.
PDRN has been used in wound healing and tissue repair for decades; aesthetics is simply its most photogenic application yet. If the nickname gets people asking the right questions, we will allow it.
How is this different from regular microneedling? +
Regular microneedling creates the repair signal; PDRN amplifies the response. Clients typically see faster recovery, stronger collagen results, and a more luminous finish than with needling alone. If SkinPen is the question, PDRN is the emphatic answer.
For age management and scarring goals especially, the difference compounds across a series: the same appointments, meaningfully more return. It is the upgrade we recommend most often, because it is the one we would choose ourselves.
How many sessions will I need? +
Most plans call for a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced about a month apart, then maintenance. Collagen matures on its own schedule, and the monthly spacing lets each session build on finished work rather than interrupting it.
Your exact sequence is designed at your consultation, with imaging, as always, and adjusted as your skin responds. Deeper scarring generally asks for the longer end of the series; luminosity goals often arrive sooner.
Is it safe for all skin tones? +
Yes. Microneedling with PDRN does not rely on heat or light, which makes it a favorite for deeper skin tones that many energy based treatments cannot serve safely.
It is also a natural companion to the Aerolase Neo within our Regenerative Program, one of the few lasers equally welcoming to every Fitzpatrick type. At VELA, safe for all skin tones is a menu philosophy, not a footnote.
How do I prepare? +
The same as microneedling: pause retinoids and exfoliating acids for several days, arrive bare faced if you can, and tell us about any active flare so we can schedule around it. The full list comes with your booking.
Mention recent injectables when you book, since those prefer a comfortable buffer before needling, and skip fresh tanning in the week prior. We only needle healthy, uncompromised skin; it is the whole premise of the treatment.
What is the aftercare? +
Gentle products, no makeup for the first day or so, and serious SPF while your skin rebuilds. We send you home with everything you need, and instructions your future skin will thank you for following.
Skip heavy sweat, saunas, and hot yoga for the first day or two, and keep actives (retinoids, acids, vitamin C) on pause until we clear them. Your skin has thousands of freshly opened channels drinking in PDRN; we keep the guest list short.
